Flemming equaliser ensures points are shared

Zian Flemming's first goal for the Club saw Burnley extend their unbeaten Sky Bet Championship run to eight matches on Wednesday night, following a 1-1 draw with Hull City at the MKM Stadium.

City midfielder Xavier Simons opened the scoring for the Tigers on the stroke of half-time with a deflected effort, before Flemming headed home the equalising goal in the 75th minute to ensure the points were shared.

Boss Scott Parker named two changes from the side that beat Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, as Lucas Pires and Hannibal came into the XI for Josh Laurent and Bashir Humphreys.

Despite the Clarets starting bright and dominating a lot of possession, Hull forced the first corner of the game, as Mohamed Belloumi’s strike was tipped wide of the target by James Trafford.

The hosts had another opportunity a few minutes later when Regan Slater played a neat one-two on the edge of the box, before firing over the crossbar.

As the game reached the halfway point of the first-half, the Tigers had another chance, but Abu Kamara rifled his effort wide of the target, as the home side began to apply the pressure.

Burnley won their first corner when Jaidon Anthony’s shot from range was pushed wide, which CJ Egan-Riley then headed narrowly over the target.

Minutes before half-time, the Clarets had another half-chance when Luca Koleosho worked his magic and weaved into the area past two City defenders, before seeing a tame strike caught by Pandur.

However, it was the hosts who broke the deadlock just on the stroke of half-time, as Simons unleashed an effort from the edge of the box, which squeezed past Trafford and into the back of the net to give Tim Walter’s side the advantage at the break.

The first goal Burnley had conceded in almost seven and a half hours of football.

There wasn’t much between the two sides in the early stages of the second-half, until the Clarets had their foot on the pedal and began to apply real pressure on the Tigers.

After a couple of corners were won, Flemming was played through on the edge of the area, but brought down in the process, with the referee waving away any appeals for a free-kick from a dangerous position.

As the clock passed the hour mark, Parker turned to his bench for the first time of the evening, as Koleosho and Hannibal made way for Laurent and Enock Agyei, with the latter making his first team debut for the Club.

The pressure then paid off with 15 minutes left on the clock, as Anthony twisted City full-back Lewie Coyle inside out, before picking out Flemming inside the area to head home the equaliser.

Parker made further changes, with Jay Rodriguez, Andreas Hountondji and Bashir Humphreys coming on for Pires, Flemming and Cullen, but the visitors couldn't quite snatch a late winner in Hull.

A point each meant Burnley headed back to Lancashire sitting second in the Sky Bet Championship.
